My favorite scene in the original script was when Kong used a tree as a cigar and waddled around saying "a gal a day's enough for me, I couldn't handle any more."

Well, a lot of comedy IS making fun of things you love. On SCTV, they often parodied old or obscure films because that's what they personally liked to watch... and that knowledge of the material made...
